Herbie Thorpe - T.T. Lofts - Auction #1 2023

Auction Information

Herbie Thorpe of Thorpe Thoroughbred Lofts

Blog Entry

For many people looking at Herbie’s career in pigeons, they will say that his greatest achievement was winning the INFC Kings Cup Grand National 2015 with a home-bred hen, BERT’s GIRL, winning with the fastest winning velocity in the history of the race (a record that stands to this day).

To Herbie, like all true sprint fanciers. It is the averages trophies that mean the most, especially in a federation like the Irish South Road Federation (ISRF), probably one of the most competitive racing organization in Europe, with convoys regularly being 10,000+ birds, all sprint racing into the greater Dublin area. An entry of approximately 600 members, all restricted to a maximum entry of 50 birds per race, racing into an area of approximately 120 sq kms.

In the last 4 years, Herbie has bred the champion young bird twice. The first was Sheldon in 2020, and then Haaland in 2022. Both birds are exceptional, and both share the same mother, Odetta. As far as research is possible, Herbie has not heard of any other hen that has bred 2 champion young birds. In addition to winning champion young bird twice, Herbie has also finished 2nd twice, and it is with a daughter of Sheldon 1st Champion Young bird ISRF 2020 and Near Miss, 2nd champion young bird ISRF 2018, that we open the sale.

To produce birds capable of being consistently up with the winners (ISRF only awards points to birds in the first 100 places), requires superb breeding stock. Herbie Thorpe owns some of the very best Van Den Bulck pigeons anywhere in Europe. They are a working family of birds producing racers, not just a stud churning out birds for others to race. He also has top birds from Stefaan Lambrechts, Leo Hermans, Patrick Boeckx (children of Sagan), Roger Engelen & Andre Roodhoft including children of Tom and the dam of Lady Shyne winner of 1st Nat Bourges against 8,000+ birds. (Lady Shyne was sold on PIPA for 20,000 euros).

All of these birds have been acquired by Herbie through good personal friendships with these outstanding fanciers over many years

Finally, Herbie has a very strict rule when it comes to his birds.

If he doesn’t think he can win with it, then it isn’t welcome in his loft, if it isn’t good enough for him, then it is most certainly not good enough for his customers.

Happy Bidding !
