Proxy Bidding, Also known as Commission Bidding is a concept in which the system automatically bids on your behalf up to the maximum bid amount that you have chosen (“Max Bid”).

Your leading bid will be placed from your max bid, at one increment above the competing bid, thus keeping you in the top position until your “Max Bid” is reached. The driver of the “Max Bid” is bids from other bidders.

This is simply to make the online auction process much easier and less time-consuming. Proxy Bid is the Maximum Bid and not the Current Bid.

  • If auction price is between 0 and 750 the bid increment is 10
  • If auction price is between 750 and 1500 the bid increment is 25
  • If auction price is between 1500 and 2500 the bid increment is 50
  • If auction price is over 2500 the bid increment is 100

Description

Pigeon Partners are very pleased to bring to market an exciting final and total clearance sale for top Irish distance racer Paul Swindell.

As many may know, Paul has suffered major health problems since 2019. Indeed, throughout 2019 he was really struggling to get anything done with his birds, being unable to train or prepare them for races properly. This made his 3rd National INFC Lamballe winning hen Sunset Lady such a special hen, she had a few up Ireland races and was flown open hole around the loft – this was all the preparation she and his other entries to the Friendship national got. Sunset Lady is a full sister to Paul’s 2013 4th Friendship National winning Cock, Extreme Heat. Sunset Lady’s nest-mate was found early on the second morning of the Friendship national, by a member of the public, dead on a beach outside Dundalk, just 20 miles from home, the victim of a Peregrine Falcon attack. We will never know what position he would have taken. There are Brothers, sisters and children of these 2 top birds in this sale.

Paul’s realisation that his health was irrevocably damaged focused his mind. His dalliance with sprint pigeons was over, just not having the energy to do that kind of racing was obvious.

In 2020 he realised he would not physically be able to endure the daily requirements to perform within the intense 3-week French racing programme. He needed the season to be longer and more spread out if he was going to be able to do any kind of racing and show performances befitting his colony – He was going to fly the Internationals. To this end he bred a race team for 2022 International racing, in his opinion it is the best team of distance birds he has ever owned. All these birds are for sale.

He had spent many hours and substantial investment in procuring the grandchildren of 6 x 1st International Barcelona winners, he visited with Jelle Jellema who introduced him to Jan Morsink, a very close friend of Jelle and someone who is regarded as having the very best colony of Jellema pigeons outside Jelle himself. Jelle kindly selected birds for him. These birds and their children are in this sale.

He bred a special team in 2020 of stock birds to be the future of his stock loft, when hopefully his health had improved. These are for sale.

He has tried to battle on but this has now proved impossible and he has had to face the reality that all his birds must go. His dreams of flying the Internationals into Ireland are gone.

However, the near 50 years of knowledge and breeding expertise are there in this wonderful collection of birds.

Selective breeding over the years has allowed Paul to develop his own family of birds. Their breeding is for one purpose. To be able to fly across the sea in the toughest of conditions. His birds are pigeons with hearts as big as a lion’s, and the determination to get home no matter how tough the conditions.

This is why he very seldom fails to clock birds from the French and channel races. In fact, from 2009 to 2018 apart from the 2012 Kings Cup, Paul has successfully clocked in every French national race he has competed in. 27 races, with only 1 lapse.

In 2018 Paul sent to 3 races from France ;
Race 1: St. Allouestre 466miles (751 kms) – successfully clocked 1 from 6 (17% return), only 72 birds out of 2,827 returned (2.5% return).
Race 2: Le Mans 515 miles (831 kms) – successfully clocked 5 pigeons. the 1st 3 on the second morning to become the first birds in the 40 year history of the BICC to be clocked in race time into Ireland from a BICC National. 5 out of 24 (21 % return) – no one else clocked a bird into Ireland from this race.
Race 3: Lamballe 434 miles (699 kms) – he clocked 2 from 4 birds sent (50% return), the overall race return was under 10%. He also bred the parents of the 8th and 9th Open National prize winning birds of Bernard Smyth.

In total Paul sent 34 birds to 3 French races and clocked 8 of them (23.5% return), the best from all fanciers on the island of Ireland.

In 2014 Paul was the only fancier in Northern Ireland to clock in all 3 French races.

Paul has always favoured looking for the results of hens from tough races for breeding stock. To this end he traces his own family back to 4 exceptional hens.

Reims Girl owned and raced by Jim Donaldson (Peterhead Scotland), she is the furthest flying SNFC gold medal winner – 3 times Reims 620 miles, twice Tours 707 miles. Paul purchased 2 sons and 2 daughters of Reims girl. All of the Donaldson birds that Paul bought have bred winners for Paul and everyone he has sold young too. Old Scottish blood (Geddes and Cattryse).

Barcelona Duiven owned and raced by Jelle Outhuijse (Took, Netherlands) – this great hen was 36th National Ruffec 2002, 77th national St. Vincent 2003, 133rd Barcelona 2004, 219th Barcelona 2005, 350th National Perpignan 2005 and 144th National Barcelona 2006. 5 times in International races and on each occasion in the national results. St. Vincent 730 miles, Perpignan 805 miles, Barcelona 864 miles. Paul bought 2 daughters of Barcelona Duiven, they both bred top racers and breeders. She would have both Hagen Brothers and Martha Van Geel lines in her breeding.

Sophie owned and raced by Dave Goddard (Reading England), she achieved 8th National Barcelona, 12th National Barcelona 719 miles, 24th National Palamos, 120th National Palamos 688 miles – 4 times from Spain into the UK in the Prize money. Paul purchased 3 sons of Sophie all have produced national winners.

Portavogie Lass owned and raced by Palmer and Young (Portavogie N. Ireland) – a legend in Irish channel racing. She was the only bird home in 3 days from the Dinard old bird derby and a winner of the Millar Gold cup. She was the only bird home out of an entry of over 5,000 birds from all racing organisations in Ireland. She flew 15 hours on the wing from 450 miles in horrendous conditions. Paul acquired as many children and grandchildren of Portavogie Lass as he could, they are all through the back breeding of his most successful birds. Portavogie Lass typifies all that is good about Irish channel racing pigeons. Sheer guts and bravery to face the toughest conditions to get home when 5,000 others couldn’t – a truly remarkable pigeon. She would have Billy Walkingshaw blood in her lineage.

Paul won ;

2nd Open Quimper, 444 miles with Queen of the Rain, a granddaughter of Sophie and Barcelona Duiven,

Including Mr. Goddard’s granddaughter Brenda Anne for Martin Graham in the NIPA St. Malo old bird national – being the only bird home in section B from 60 members who sent 218 birds – only 10 birds home in the race, 422 members sent 1,535 birds. Brenda Anne finished 7th national. Flying 474 miles.

Children of all these birds are in this sale. Mr. Goddard and Lemon Eyes are also in the sale both birds are 2010 born, but both are still fertile. Each will be free with one of their daughters.

All of his national winners, his stock birds and young birds bred for stock are now up for sale.
